FLAG DAY!
Had to friggin wake up at 6 get to school on time, which surprisingly i was on time!
Collected the tins and walked to board the mrt to orchard.
On our way there, we discussed the best idea to get people to donate to us.
Maybe a little humour could do.
Like : " Hi, do you wish to donate money? We are raising funds to help mas selamat."
or we could start a percussion group with the tins.
or we could paint ourself gold and offer to let people take pictures with us.
We literally laughed all the way to orchad.
Decided to split up with clarissa and zubia.
Jin and I decided to get donations at the super long pathway right in front of wisma, all
the way,past taka, nearing cinelesiure.
Cheaterbugs! Some people who were also collecting donation for flag day stood in front of the
underground mrt station.
The rules were clearly stated it was not allowed to be indoors.
Anyway, we faced real fierce competition. Every corner was a St.John person collecting
donations.
Now, it was a huge mistake to choose to go to orchard.
We were thinking that people there would be more well-to-do, so they will be more generous.
My foot.
Yes, they were well-to-do. Dressed in branded clothes from head to toe.
But asking them to donate was another thing.
They swerve, they dodge, they pretend to talk on the phone (poor acting though, saw right though that), or they simply ignore you.
Come on, i'm not asking for like a miniuim donation to be at least $2.
A 10 cent counts too!
Like it kills them to donate 10 cents.
Today, i really saw the ugly side of singaporeans.
One example, a woman was walking, with her mom beside her.
The woman was like in a quite expensive looking outfit and all.
so i went up and asked, and the woman's reply was LATER.
Oh yeah right, you're sooooo gonna come find me later to donate.
but her mom stopped and gave me a 20 cent coin. i said thank you and gave a sticker.
now guess what the woman said.
she said : "WHY GIVE HER MONEY?"
omg. wtf. its just a friggin 20cent coin. must she react this way?
ugly.ugly.ugly.
Then having encountered lots more such digusting behaviour, this really touched me.
I was standing there, like a broken recorder.
Just kept saying: excuse me,would you like to donate. thank you.
and nobody donated at all.
Then, an old man came up.
He look really old, and had old and run-down clothes. and was carry bags filled with
soda cans and other stuff.
and he took 2 twenty cent coins out, which i think was all the money he had.
and he stuggled to put the coins in, cause he's hands was shaking badly.
still, he donated 40 cents.
That 40 cents meant so much more.
JELLY AND PEANUT. or POTATO STICKS. (:
